Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
The only player to captain two teams to Stanley Cup championships, Mark Messier enjoyed a quarter-century of NHL hockey, and is currently second on the all-time career lists for playoff points, and third for regular-season points. From the earlier part of his Hall of Fame career, we have a signed stick used by Messier in 1985-86, a season that witnessed his fourth All-Star selection. A CCM 1001 model with worn but intact striping accents, “Messier” is stamped to the upper shaft with “11” handwritten (most of his name is covered with the handle tape), with the original black tape over the blade and white-over-black on the handle (the white tape was added, and wasn’t used as such by Messier). There is also a “31 Jul 1985” date stamp on the underside. Nice game-use is exhibited, with wear to the taped section of blade along with marks to the shaft. Messier added a period ballpoint signature to the upper shaft with “Best Wishes”.
