Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020

A veteran of 83 NHL playoff matches throughout his considerably long career, Grant Ledyard dressed for nine different NHL clubs. The Winnipeg native also represented Canada at back-to-back World Championships. This desirable Los Angeles Kings jersey was worn by Ledyard during the 1987-88 season, his third and final in Hollywood. A Maska Air-Knit label remains affixed to the collar, with the jersey measuring-out to roughly a size 56. Styled with the classic Kings’ embroidered crown team crest, the vintage purple V-neck has been accented with dual-colour tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with “Ledyard” across the affixed nameplate in single gold twill. Splitting the 1987-88 season between Los Angeles and Washington (with 3 games also played for New Haven in the AHL), Ledyard only appeared in 23 games for the Kings, so the light wear on the jersey is expected, with just a few random marks present along with some red paint transfer over each sleeve.
It should be noted that we were able to locate a photo that appears to show Ledyard wearing this jersey. Getty Image # 461993202 dated Jan 4, 1986 (the date is possibly wrong) appears to show a number of matches within both the shape, placement and particularities of both the team crest and “4” over the right sleeve, with the red paint transfer mark near the right elbow also appearing to match, but the image is not high resolution enough to call a definitive photo-match.
