Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019

A gorgeous and riveting Upper Deck production to admire while contemplating Sidney Crosby's more-than-admirable career is this scarce pack-pull, limited to just 87 examples and from the first year of the company's "The Cup" high-end product, 2005-06. That’s the season that Sid the Kid began his illustrious NHL career and that cards like this beauty were among those chased by high-end box busters and collectors. Featuring a perfect autograph between Sidney’s image and a splendid three-color swatch, the card rests in a thick scratch-free Beckett holder and has received a mark of 8.5 NM-MT+ from the firm. That’s the sum of the four sub grades which are as follows: Centering 9.5, Corners 8.5, Edges 8.5 and Surface 9.5. The back of the label includes the grade of the autograph; a perfect “10”. Info on the reverse of the card will further add to the overall attractiveness and reads in part, “On the front of this card is an authentic piece of a patch from a jersey worn by Sidney Crosby in an official NHL game.” Cool is the fact that the card is numbered "19 / 87" which is the year that the Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia native was born. As for Beckett numbers, they reveal that just 13 of 49 total submissions of such cards have scored higher than this example, which is joined by 17 other 8.5s. Arguably the best of his era and instrumental in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ three most recent Stanley Cup triumphs, Sid is not done yet!
