Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Guarding the crease of the CHL’s Fort Worth Texans for four seasons in the mid-to-late-1970s, netminder Bill Hughes saw action in just three games with the WHA’s Houston Aeros in 1972-73, where he registered a 3.88 GAA. We have the Aeros jersey worn by the Kirkland Lake native. A rolled and partially-detached size “50” label is situated over the collar, with a “The General” label affixed just above the inner hem. “B. Hughes” has been placed over the upper reverse in single blue twill, with the one-year style sweater embellished with “Aeros” across the chest in matching material. “29” appears in tackle twill over the sleeves and verso, with a single white star over each shoulder. On the want-list of collectors, this rare Aeros jersey should receive spirited bidding.
With wear to the fabric over the lower front including a small hole, the front collar has been vented, with a few small blood stains visible, over the front, upper right and lower left sleeves. A few rust-coloured stains are also present to the interior at the shoulder, likely from spending prolonged time on a metal hanger. There is also wear to the lower band, along with some minor spotting to the reverse.
