Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Short-lived in The Peg due to losing fans and attendance to the Jets NHL franchise, the Winnipeg Warriors began as an expansion club in 1980, relocating to Moose Jaw in 1984. We have a Warriors jersey worn by Jukka Effraimsson during the inaugural season, in 1980-81. Sporting this particular set of jerseys from just the beginning of the season until the first week of December in 1980, the team then switched over to Cooperalls and Cooper jerseys. An Athletic Knit label with “XL” sizing is affixed to the collar, with an additional AK logo rubberized over the reverse hem. The team crest is also rubberized, along with the red “22” with black trim over the sleeves and verso, with matching dual-tomahawk logos over each shoulder. Also included is a printed photo from the Winnipeg Free Press (October 23rd 1980) showing Effraimsson wearing a jersey from the first set.
Surviving in gorgeous condition and sporting just light use, there is some beige discolouration visible on the interior that bleeds slightly through, most likely from equipment, with this noticeable over the lower front and on each upper sleeve.
