Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
A likely unique piece of Montreal and Canadian Football League history is this fascinating find which features blue ink autographs of 38 members of the 1955 Alouettes squad. Many of the men who helped the Als to three straight Grey Cup appearances in the mid-1950s signed the white Wilson Red Grange model ball. Easily recognizable are the sigs of Canadian Football Hall of Fame inductees Sam Etcheverry, Hal Patterson, Red O’Quinn (signed “John O’Quinn”), Herb Trawick, Tom Hugo and Bruce Coulter. Other notables include former All-American and All-Pro “Tex” Coulter, Doug McNichol, Bill Bewley, Ted Elsby, Mike Kovac, McGill coaching legend Charlie Baillie and Moe Bremner, the latter whose Als’ career began in 1955, helping to date the treasure. Some of the signatures are hard to identify, but our consignor has zeroed-in on 27 of them, with the list to be included. What a piece to hold and behold while contemplating the greatness of “The Rifle”, “Prince” Hal, trailblazer Trawick and company.
