Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Cut from cereal boxes by excited youngsters during the Great Depression, we have a pair of hand-cut Wheaties cards, with a 1936 Lou Gehrig Series 3 example, along with a 1935 Jimmy Foxx Series 1 card. The Foxx is just under 6” x 6 ½”, while the Gehrig is slightly larger, at just over 6” x 6 ½”. Known to collectors as the "Fancy Frame with Script Signature" set, the 1935 Series 1 Foxx card has a tiny blemish over the right side along with a bit of spotting within the rough-cut top border. There are also a few dark marks over the reverse. The 1936 Series 3 Gehrig remains in beautiful condition with a bit of surface wear, along with light wear to the upper corners and a few small creases only visible over the upper reverse.
