Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Voted as the greatest fighter of the past 50 years by the Associated Press in 1950, Jack Dempsey (1895-1983) reigned as the world heavyweight champion from 1919 to 1926, with his hard-hitting style and affable character making him an American icon throughout the 1920s. The Manassa Mauler would win 54 of his 75 career fights, with 44 by knockout. We have a collection of Dempsey items totaling 6, with a pair of vintage photos including one signed, along with four desirable boxing cards. With both photos at 8” x 10”, the first picture’s the champ at dinner with guests, with Dempsey signing in light blue ink, adding a lengthy personalization, with the ink fading somewhat and creases and moderate wear to the photo itself. The second photo picture’s the heavyweight in a somber moment, with a facsimile signature and personalization, and moderate to heavier wear to the photo including some creasing and toning. The cards include Dempsey’s Circa 1920 Juncosa Chocolate Pantalla card (rare - just under 3 ¼” x 5 ½”, with corner and surface wear along with small crease over the upper right corner), 1929 Godfrey Phillips Sporting Champions card (wear to the top two corners over the reverse, with a small crease visible over the reverse right bottom corner), 1938 Churchman Boxing Personalities Card (beautiful condition with just very light corner wear) and 1923 Williards Chocolates card (low grade, with heavy creasing and toning, with staining over the reverse). A JSA LOA will accompany for the signed photo.
