Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Alluring quality T206 specimen here pictures Frank Chance, first baseman of the Chicago Cubs' famous Tinkers-to-Evers-to-Chance double play combination. California-born Chance had started out with the Cubs' predecessors, the Chicago "Orphans" in 1898 and was a seasoned veteran by the time the T206s were issued. He actually became a player-manager in 1905 and guided the Cubs to World Series victories over the Detroit Tigers in both 1907 and 1908, before losing to Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics in 1910. Terrific eye candy here features a thought-provoking image set against a deep rich red background. With a Piedmont back, the card has merited EX-MT 6 recognition at PSA and is joined by 26 other similar copies. The PSA Population Report also reveals that out of close to 600 submissions (592 as of this writing) of the Chance portrait with red background variation, just 27 have scored higher. A splendid acquisition for a T206/Cubs collection this encapsulated treasure will be.
