The NHL’s all-time regular season career record holder for wins, shutouts, assists and games played, Martin Brodeur is widely regarded as the greatest modern netminder, with his 125 career shutouts surely to never be challenged. From earlier-on in his remarkable Hall of Fame career, we have a pair of skates worn by the superstar and photo-matched to the 1995-96 NHL season including the All-Star Game. Well used Bauer models with matching white Bauer skate guards, each feature’s intact lacing (surely changed at some point during their period of use), with heavy wear visible including team repairs to each, with brown leather sections added over the back ankle sections to reinforce the heavily-worn leather backings. These customizations are evidence of thorough, prolonged use, with photos showing Brodeur wearing new skate guards at the beginning of the 1995-96 season, with an image from the 1994-95 Stanley Cup Finals showing different white guards but with a similar customized section added to the ankle of the left skate, making the probability high due to the amount of wear that the skates themselves were likely worn during the 1994-95 season including the Stanley Cup playoffs and finals. An LOA from the Brodeur family will accompany.
As mentioned, the skates show heavy use, with considerable wear to the fabric and salting to the lacing grommets. There are also numerous puck marks littering the white guards along with considerable red paint transfer, with some minor rusting to each blade. Getty Image #898636902 from March 6th 1996 has been matched to the black marks located on the back exterior portion of the right skate guard, while Getty Image #55980721 from Jan 20th 1996 (NHL All-Star Game) has been matched to the two sets of black marks on the outside bottom portion of the left skate’s blade holder.
