Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Each puck originally distributed by Hockey Diversified for the 1972-74 NHL Goal Puck Program could be obtained by mail with the buyer's choice of team and possibly player. A label was affixed to each puck listing the scorer, team and date, along with a code that divulged which team-goal said puck accounted for. We have a pair of pucks from the first year of the program in 1972-73, along with a pair from the second year, in 1973-74, with each used to score a goal for the Montreal Canadiens. The first was used by Rejean Houle to plot the Canadiens 177th goal of the season vs Pittsburgh, on Jan 17th 1973. The second puck was used by Chuck Lefley to score the Habs 155th goal of the season, vs California, on Jan 6th 1973. Next, the third puck was used by Yvon Lambert to score Montreal’s 139th goal of the season vs Boston, on Jan 12th 1974, while the final slug was used by Pete Mahovlich to score the Habs 211th goal of the season vs LA, on Feb 23rd 1974. The Houle puck will be accompanied by a Goal Puck Registration Certificate.
The Houle goal served as his 8th goal of the season, scored in the third, his final goal in a hat trick, with the Habs winning the contest 6-4. Using a generic Goal Puck Program label with the date and inventory number handwritten, there is wear to each label/logo, with just light wear to the puck itself including a mark along the side. The Lefley goal served as his 11th of the season, with the Habs shutting-out the Seals, 5-0. The Habs logo is dark with clear tape residue, with some dark marks over the Goal Puck Program label. The Lambert puck served as his 5th goal of the season, with the Habs defeating the Bruins, 7-3. Both the Bruins logo and Goal Puck Program label are dark and show heavy wear with some residue over the latter, with some of the oils surfacing on the puck. Lastly, the Mahovlich goal served as his 26th of the season, with Montreal tying LA, 4-4. The puck has been signed in pencil over the Goal Puck Program label, with the label quite dark with blemishes. The Habs logo has a few dark marks, with just a few small edge chips to the puck itself.
