Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Believed to have been packaged and issued with Ruth’s Home Run candy bars, the George Ruth Candy Company issued a six-card set featuring beloved Babe Ruth in 1928, with a complete set originally redeemable for a signed Ruth baseball. A somewhat harder pre-war set to locate, less than 150 combined examples have been graded and encapsulated by both PSA and SGC. We have three examples constituting 50% of a complete set, with cards number #3 (VG-EX 4 – the only horizontal pose) and #4 (VG 3) both graded by PSA, along with a copy of card #5 (40VG 3 – blank reverse) graded by SGC. Here’s your chance to seal up half of an important and desirable pre-war Babe Ruth issue.
Each of the cards displays well with crisp images, with mostly toning and corner wear accounting for the assigned grades. It should also be noted that each of the holders exhibits heavy wear, especially the SGC example, with numerous scratches throughout.
