Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Former Boston Red Sox star pitcher Babe Ruth had indeed become an outfielder with the New York Yankees by 1921 and was in the midst of putting up back-to-back 50-plus home run seasons when this image was issued by the Exhibit Supply Company. George Herman smacked 54 roundtrippers in 1920 in his initial campaign with New York and then walloped 59 in 1921, posting almost identical career-high slugging percentages of .847 and .846. The uniform, the ball glove and the look of Ruth in his mid-20s are all fascinating to observe here, with the Beckett BVG holder labeled "1 POOR". Creasing below the legend's hands, two tack holes near the upper edge and mathematical calculations in pencil on the otherwise blank back are the most noteworthy grade-lowering flaws. Perfect for those looking to land a Babe Ruth piece and not all that concerned with condition, this one will have you marvelling while contemplating the Babe's ultra-remarkable, unparalleled legacy.
