Philadelphia's GUM INC. has the distinction of issuing the only official rookie card of the legendary Ted Williams, with card #92 of its Play Ball set an absolute prerequisite to an important rookie card/Williams portfolio. The offered example is free of creases, has side-to-side centering issues and corner wear rendering it VG-EX 4 in the eyes of PSA. Williams was just 20 when he made his Major League debut in April of 1939, his initial campaign an eye-opener to say the least; 185 hits, 44 doubles, 31 home runs, 145 RBI and a .327 average! He was the first rookie to lead the American League in RBI and even though there was not an official award yet, Babe Ruth declared Williams to be the Rookie of the Year, which Williams reportedly later said was "good enough for me". Teddy Ballgame's 19-year career included 19(!) All-Star selections, a second-to-none career .482 on base percentage, six batting titles, two MVP awards, two Triple Crowns and still more accomplishments. Imagine what his career numbers could/would have been had he not missed close to five full seasons due to military service in World War II and the Korean War. A coveted rookie card of one of the greatest ever will be an extraordinary acquisition; you'll be beaming with pride when it arrives.
We should note some residue along with a few minor scratches over both the front and reverse of the PSA holder.
