Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Acquired by scarfing down countless bottles of delicious Coca-Cola and Sprite during the 1964-65 hockey season, we have a beautiful framed display featuring a complete set of the bottle caps from the noteworthy soft drink promotion, with these examples desirable proofs. Instantly recognizable but without the "Drink Coke" or "Taste Sprite" text beneath the hockey player’s images, the caps are without cork liners, while the silvery surface finish usually seen missing. Set within the 13” x 22” plastic rink wall plaque that was available for 75 cents with full-colour team logos, 18 caps are present for each Original Six club, for a 108-cap total. All of the stars of the day are featured including Plante, Howe, Hull, Horton, Beliveau and many others. Framed to full dimensions of approx 22 ½” x 31 ½”, this display is awaiting a new home.
The caps display wonderfully with the majority sporting just light wear with no unsightly bends or surface marks. The rink wall plaque remains clean and bright, with some damage along the right border, with this more visible and pronounced when held at an angle. The black metal frame is in beautiful condition with light wear.
