Grouped together by a patient collector, we have a collection totaling 27 of magazines and publications including a few covers that all feature hockey imagery, spanning from 1921 to 1965. Highlighted by a cardboard point-of-sale advertisement for the March 15th 1941 issue of Liberty (8 ½” x 11 ½”), also included we have 17 magazines/publications, 8 loose covers and a single calendar page. First, in the 8 ½” x 11 ½” range give or take, we have 6 full magazines from the late-1930s/early-1940s including issues of Liberty (Montreal Maroons cover), Life and Health and The New Yorker, along with 4 loose covers (3 Liberty magazine 1935-37 and The New Yorker 1965). This is followed by 9 publications in the 10 ½” x 13 ½” range from 1929-1951 including the March 15th 1951 issue of Macleans featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs, along with loose covers from 1929 (The Scout & Signal), 1936 (Country Gentleman) and 1939 (American Boy). Next, we have complete issues of The Literary Digest from 1921 (9” x 12”) and The American Legion Weekly from 1923 (8” x 11”), along with a copy of 12 Sports Aces from March of 1941 (7” x 9 ¾”). Lastly, we have a loose cover for the “This Week” section of the Cleveland Plain Dealer from 1939 (10 ½” x 15 ¾”) along with a page from Christy Walsh’s All American calendar from 1955.
The Liberty point-of-sale ad shows just edge and surface wear with pinholes present, with the majority of the full publications having condition issues including edge and corner wear along with the odd tear. A couple of the issues also sport tape repairs and spine damage, with a few of the loose covers heavily damaged and in low grade.
