Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

Once numbering approx 1000 members, the Gallery Gods were the preeminent Boston Bruins fan club, jointly founded by longtime Boston Garden resident supporter Roger Naples (Napolitano) in 1937, with the club first occupying the second balcony of the original Beantown shrine. We have the original framed display that was presented to HOFer Milt Schmidt by the Gallery Gods at an on-ice presentation, on Feb 26th 1941, with this display part of Milt’s collection and acquired directly from his family. Celebrating the entire Kraut line with displays produced for each player, Schmidt is expertly depicted in watercolour with both on-ice and portrait images, with text within the upper right that states “The Gallery Gods award the Kitchener Kids”, with small cameos of Schmidt, Dumart and Bauer beneath. Framed to full dimensions of approx 16 ½” x 23”, a scrapbook page with a newsprint photo showing the trio being awarded their displays is also included. An LOA from the Schmidt family will accompany.
The display shows considerable wear with toning along with heavy foxing, with a few random small stains. The frame itself also shows heavy wear with the display somewhat loose, with damage over the backing. The accompanying scrapbook page is roughly 9 ½” x 13 ½”, with the date of “Feb 26th 1941” handwritten above the newsprint photo.
