This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Passing in 2017 shortly before his 99th birthday and a veritable legend in Boston and the hockey world at large, Milt Schmidt spent 16 seasons representing the spoked-B, with a pair of Stanley Cups won as a player, along with a pair won as general manager. Originating from Milt’s personal collection and acquired directly from the Schmidt family, we have a small collection of items totaling 10. We have 5 different photos including a 1929-30 Bruins team photo with printed signatures and a 1947 NHL All-Star Game team photo by noted lensman Turofsky, loaded with HOFers. There are also images from Milt’s time with the Providence Reds and RCAF Ottawa Flyers, along with the Canada Bud Softball Team. This is followed by 4 JD McCarthy celluloid Bruins discs and a unique souvenir card with original artwork, signed by 21 reporters. An LOA from the Schmidt family will accompany.
The 1929-30 Bruins team photo is 7 ½” x 9 ½” and mounted to a photo matting (9” x 10 ½”), with the full team including Art Ross in an on-ice pose, with printed signatures beneath. The photo displays beautifully, with light wear including a few creases to the backing. The Providence Reds photo is from 1936-37 and measures approx 8” x 10”, with the full team posed including Schmidt along with Kraut Line members Woody Dumart and Bobby Bauer. Wrinkles and creases are present, with the image displaying well. The RCAF and 1947 All-Star Game photos are both 8” x 10” with light wear, with Woody Dumart and Bobby Bauer also pictured with the RCAF along with Schmidt, with a number of HOFers pictured in the 1947 photo including Schmidt, along with Richard, Brimsek, Durnan, Mosienko, Lindsay and many others. The softball photo is from 1937 and measures 7” x 8 ½”, with Schmidt pictured along with his brother Carl, with the photo slightly faded and warped. The signed card is 6” x 10 ½” and from 1952, with original artwork from renowned Boston cartoonist Eddie Germano, with signatures from 21 different reports. Lastly, we have 4 identical J.D. McCarthy celluloid Bruins discs from 1946 (5”), with facsimile signatures from team members, with toning visible on each.
