Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
"The Trail of the Stanley Cup" is a definite prerequisite to any important hockey library. Author Charles Coleman's three-volume history of hockey and Lord Stanley's trophy from 1893 to 1967 is contained within these three black leather-bound books, with this series seen as the definitive work on the subject. Only 1,000 copies of this special edition of the first two books were presented to important hockey figures; the third was limited to 1,500 books. The books in this complete set are individually numbered: Volume 1 is numbered “476” and was originally presented to the St Louis Blues first owner, Sid Salomon, while the second and third volumes are both numbered “128”. The additional third volume is numbered “1458”.
Volume 1, which covers 1893-1926, has light wear and toning to the Sid Salomon book plate. The cover of Volume 2 has the original plastic cover, with both Volume 3 examples showing just light handling wear. Each volume comes with its original black slipcase with a gold-colored image of the Stanley Cup printed on one side, with a pair of the cases showing wear along edges.
