Finishing first and second overall at the conclusion of the 1926-27 NHL season, the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens - respectively - both included a number of noteworthy superstars, with the Sens claiming the 1927 Stanley Cup. Featuring the legendary Howie Morenz in just his third season, we have an Ottawa Senators program for a New Year’s Day tilt in the nation’s capital in 1927, against the Canadiens. At 6” x 9” and filled with interesting advertisements including that of H.A. Proulx, stick maker of the Senators since 1912, 10 of the starting 12 players listed in the line-up are HOFers including Joliat, Hainsworth, Gardiner, Smith, Connell, Clancy and others. Complete at 8-pages, the Sens would win the day, slipping past the Habs 2-1. Nearly-century old NHL programs rarely surface, especially featuring the two most noteworthy clubs of the era.
With toning along with some foxing over the back cover the main concerns, the program remains tight, with the single staple intact and rust-free. There is a crease over the top right corner that continues through the program, along with a few smaller creases over the bottom right corner of the cover, with the very top left corner clipped.
