Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
A three-time James Norris Memorial Trophy winner as the NHL's top defenceman, Denis Potvin is best remembered as the defensive leader of the New York Islanders Stanley Cup dynasty. The Vanier native is also the longest-serving captain in Long Island history, donning the "C" from 1979 to 1987. We have a signed stick used by the four-time Stanley Cup champion. A KOHO 221 Custom Pro model with “D Potvin” stamped-on and handwritten “5”, the original black tape remains over the blade, along with the white and black spiral pattern over the handle. Nice use is exhibited, with wear to the underside of the blade, with marks along with both red and blue paint transfer over the shaft.
Denis has signed over the upper shaft in thin black marker, adding “To Rick”, with the small signature displaying well. We should also note tape residue over the upper shaft, with this most likely occurring from a number of sticks being bundled and taped together.
