Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
A wonderful representation of our beloved Canadian sport as it’s embraced and played elsewhere, we have an interesting antique and vintage postcard collection of 50 spanning from the early-1900s to 1960s, with a number of locales featured along with Canada. Highlighted by a postcard of the 1933 Allan Cup-champion Moncton Hawks, there is also an example of famous Duquesne Gardens in Pittsburgh – postmarked 1909, and a rare example showing the skating rink of the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association from 1905 – the first winners of the Stanley Cup. In total, there are 22 European postcards and 27 North American, along with a single Chinese example featuring a winter festival. There are 6 McGill postcards with slight variations and 7 showing a famous image of Victoria Rink – all differing slightly, with the European postcards highlighted by examples from St Moritz, Chamonix and Paris.
The majority of the postcards exhibit moderate to heavier wear, with toning and surface/edge/corner wear the main culprits.
