Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Signaling the beginning of the Original Six era with their demise in the fall of 1942, the New York Americans were only the third NHL expansion club and first in the Big Apple, forming in 1925, with a number of noteworthy HOfers donning their famous red, white and blue uniforms during the club’s tenure. We have a real photo postcard of the 1938-39 club featuring four HOFers, with Nels Stewart, Sweeney Schriner and Hooley Smith, along with coach Red Dutton. Posed in an on-ice setting in uniform, the full team is pictured, with a clean and blank postal reverse. Just a few surface wrinkles and small creases are to note, with some minor corner and edge wear. Finishing fourth at the conclusion of the 1938-39 season, the Amerks would meet and be defeated by Toronto in the first round of the playoffs.
Accompanying the 1938-39 New York Americans postcard, we have a modern 8” x 10” print of the 1940-41 squad.
