Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019

“Considered to be the star of tomorrow” is how Parkhurst’s write-up on Jean Beliveau ends off on the back of his desirable rookie card, with the much-heralded and highly-anticipated arrival of Beliveau to the NHL “finally” taking place in the fall of 1953. For the uninformed, the center was a type of holdout, starring for two seasons with the Quebec Aces senior team instead of joining the Canadiens after two years with the (junior) Quebec Citadels. Once in Montreal, big Jean didn’t take long to make his mark, winning the scoring title and MVP honors in 1955-56, helping the Habs to the first of five straight Stanley Cup championships. The key card in the ’53-54 Parkie set is the Beliveau rookie, with this perfectly-centered example recently garnering EX-MT 6 recognition at PSA. Light touches to the top two corners and light toning are to note. A coveted card of a highly-respected and admired hockey icon.
