Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Bobby Hull, Gordie Howe and other men who wrote the history of the World Hockey Association are to tell you about here, or at least their respective cards, highlighted by dozens of like-new and near perfect examples. Gordie and sons Mark and Marty lead numerically (and value-wise) a ’74-75 (66-card) set, but the first and last few cards show evidence of a rubber band once being around their middles. Edge notches and two dinged corners affect card #1, with NM to Mint looking to be the range for the vast majority. Ditto for the ’76-77 (132 cards) and ’77-78 (66 cards) representatives, with however some notorious poor centering showing up intermittently in the former and the latter featuring Gordie’s #1 card with rubber band stains and indentations in the middle of the top and bottom edges. Unsightly centering issues do not affect the three (unmarked) NM-or-better checklists. Other notables to check out include Plante, Mahovlich, Tremblay, Henderson, Stapleton, Lacroix, Nilsson and Hedberg – you remember the WHA, eh?
