Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Serious competition for a youthful Wayne Gretzky, Marcel Dionne secured a dozen seasons scoring 90 points or better while competing in the world’s fastest league, with his time in a Kings jersey in the late-1970s/early-1980s especially memorable, where he eclipsed the 130-point plateau three consecutive seasons. The 1992 Hall of Fame inductee can also include an Art Ross, Lester B. Pearson (Ted Lindsay) and a pair of Lady Byng trophies to his incomparable resume, along with sixth-spot placement on the All-Time Points list, assuring immortal status. We have a Kings alternate captain’s away jersey, with this photo-matched specimen worn by Dionne during the 1984-85 season. An “84 10” born-on date tag sits beneath a partially detached CCM collar label, with the vintage knit measuring-out to roughly a size 48. Featuring the attractive Kings’ team crest with embroidered detailing that saw use until 1988, “16” appears over the sleeves and verso, with “Dionne” across the affixed nameplate in single yellow twill.
We should note both CCM and Adidas embroidered crests over the lower reverse hem, with the original fight strap cut and removed at the base, with a second dual-clasp fight strap affixed adjacently. There is wear to the material over the lower front including a few fabric pulls, with board burns and a single team repair near the right elbow. There are also heavy scuff marks over the reverse, along with considerable pilling throughout.
