Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

The signature of Hall-of Fame netminder Terry Sawchuk appears midway down this wonderful game-used stick signed by the 1955-56 Boston Bruins. He is joined in ballpoint in on this stick by fellow HOF’ers Bill Quackenbush, Fern Faman, Leo Boivin, Lynn Patrick and Milt Schmidt. Bench mates who have also signed include Don McKenney, Jerry Toppazzini, Flemming Mackell , Hal Laycoe, Bob Armstrong, Real Chevrefils, Lionel Heinrich (Bruin in 1955-56 only), Johnny Peirson, Cal Gardner, Leo Labine, Doug Mohns and three others who are difficult to discern. The autographs are uniform and legible and would grade a 5 to 6 out of 10 in most cases. A few appear lighter in tone.
Terry Sawchuk, a reluctant signer at the best of times, died in 1970 making his autograph one of the most highly-sought-after in the hobby. The stick is a mid-Fifties style CCM Pattern Made Professional with the three blue accent stripes mainly intact. Taped in vintage bulldog wrap at the knob and the length of the blade, the stick shows use and is in nice condition, despite a crack at the heel.
