Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Acquired by the St Louis Blues early-on during the club’s inaugural season in 1967-68, Red Berenson would spend four seasons in the Gateway to the West, averaging over a point-a-game during his tenure. Hailing from his personal collection, we have a pair of items from Red’s time with the Blues, including a team-signed stick used during his first season, along with a “Hat Trick” trophy from the 1969-70 NHL season. The stick is a Victoriaville Pro with “Berenson” stamped-on, with the original tape in place, with 23 red ink signatures including Harvey (only played 3 playoff games that season!), Berenson, Hall, Plager, Crisp and others. The “Hat Trick” award feature’s a 4” x 6” marble base with mounted gold puck and top hat, with an engraved plaque that reads “Red Berenson 11-1-69 Philadelphia at St Louis”. A signed LOA from Red Berenson will accompany.
The stick also has “7” handwritten over the upper shaft, with both striping accents intact. Nice use is exhibited, with wear/marks to the blade, heel section and lower shaft. Additional signatures include Melnyk, Roberts, McKenney, McCreary, Keenan, Ecclestone, Picard, Arbour, Cameron, Veneruzzo, Fortin, Martin, Caley and others. Most of the signatures display well, with a few smudged including the Glenn Hall. The Hat Trick award shows expected wear from a half century of shelf life, with a few marks, scratches and surface abrasions present, but absolutely no damage.
