Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Wow! A cool Red Wings mask that evokes the paint jobs worn by Jim Rutherford and HOFer Ed Giacomin is attributed to minor league goalie Dave Johns, who played two games for the CHL Kansas City Red Wings in 1978-79 and spent the following season in the EHL with the Johnstown Red Wings. Great look here with the eye holes serving as the hubs of the famous Red Wings Winged Wheel logo. “Dave Johns” is painted on the back edge above the right ear of this classic late-1970s fiberglass mask, which has a layer of well-worn leather padding covering the inside. Game use includes chips to the white paint on the chin and above the right eye, blue paint transfer on the left side of the nose, and various marks.
