The first Slovak-born player to win the Stanley Cup, doing so with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1961, Stan Mikita is generally recognized as the best centre of the 1960s and played his entire 1394 game National Hockey League career with the Black Hawks in Chicago between 1958-59 and 1979-80. The Art Ross Trophy winner as the NHL's leading scorer in 1964, 1965, 1967, and 1968, with Hart Memorial Trophy's coming in 1967 and 1968 as well, Mikita would be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983 and was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history during the league's centennial year of 2017. Offered here, and seeing use during the peak of his career in the era of the mid-to-late-1960s, is this stick used by Mikita. A Northland Custom Pro "Glass Fused" model with "Mikita" stamped over the shaft, additional stamps from team equipment supplier, Gunzo's, appears over both sides of the upper shaft as well, along with stamps reading ""Northland Ski Mfg" that are partially covered by the tape that is in place over the handle. Retaining its original tape job of white-over-black on the handle/knob that has been shaved down to Mikita's liking, the original black tape that was wrapped around the fear inducing "banana hook" blade has long since been removed. Still retaining the trio of accent stripes over the lower shaft, the stick displays with good game-use including numerous marks and abrasions throughout the length of the shaft and over the lower shaft plus heel areas as well. Additionally, there is residue of the formerly applied black tape found over the blade and a spot of liquid discoloration is observed over the upper shaft along with some white coloured paint residue. Hailing from the personal collection of Mikita's former teammate Pierre Pilote, a Pilote Family LOA will accompany the piece.
