Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Unopened wax boxes always offer mystique (what’s inside?!), but even more so do these 1981-82 Topps affairs, since the company’s 198-card set that year was broken up into different releases – East and West. Cards 1-66 were the same in both but different players were featured on cards numbered 67-132, with “East” or “West” appearing beneath the numbers. There’s no way to tell what’s inside these boxes without opening a pack. Shrink-wrapped boxes each feature 36 packs with 13 cards per pack. Possible pulls include early Wayne Gretzky and Ray Bourque cards and RCs of Denis Savard, Jari Kurri, Larry Murphy, Dino Ciccarelli and Peter Stastny. That’s an action shot of the Rangers’ Doug Soetaert on the box tops, with each exhibiting blackish scuff marks. Boxes have been examined and certified by unopened specialist Baseball Card Exchange, with the firm’s label and BBCE hologram affixed to the bottom of the boxes’ shrink wrap. Intriguing 36-year old goodies.
