Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Erroneously credited with coining the phrase "There's a sucker born every minute", P.T. Barnum played the role of politician, showman and businessman, and he’s best remembered for founding the Barnum & Bailey Circus. We have a signed handwritten letter from the one-time Bridgeport Connecticut mayor. At 5 ½” x 8 ½” and drafted on lined “Marina” letterhead, the single page is dated July 4th 1890, with the names of deceased individuals at a specific cemetery the topic on hand. Fully administered in fountain pen, the signature displays well, with “Born July 5th 1810” written beneath. The antique sheet is heavily creased with considerable toning, with loss at each corner most likely resulting from scrapbook removal. Barnum would pass the following April at the age of 80. A JSA LOA will accompany.
