Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Featuring signatures from members of each of the coveted Original Six teams in 1965-66, we have six team-signed sheets associated with Coca-Cola, one for each historic club, along with a complete set of 1965-66 Coke cards in the NHL Players Album. Over 120 ballpoint signatures are present, with the breakdown for each roughly 8 ½” x 11” sheet as follows; Toronto – 21 signatures including deceased HOFers Sawchuk, Horton, Stanley, Bower, Pronovost, Imlach and King Clancy. Montreal – 19 signatures including deceased HOFers Worsley, Beliveau and Toe Blake. Detroit – 17 signatures including deceased HOFers Gadsby, Bathgate and Gordie Howe. New York – 20 signatures including deceased HOFer Emile Francis. Chicago – 23 signatures including deceased HOFers Pierre Pilote and Tommy Ivan. Boston – 21 signatures including deceased HOFer Milt Schmidt.
Other HOFers who have signed include Bucyk and Parent for Boston, Kelly, Mahovlich and Keon for Toronto and Mikita, Hull, Hall and Esposito for Chicago. Other Habs HOFers include Duff, Cournoyer, Laperriere and Richard, while Delvecchio and Ullman are present for Detroit. Lastly, the other Ranger HOFers who have signed include Ratelle, Giacomin and Howell. The sheets are all on team letterhead except for the Habs and Bruins, with these signatures appearing on Coca-Cola letterhead. The majority of the signatures display extremely well and exhibit no fading. We should also note that according to our consignor, these team-signed sheets were requested by/and sent by Coke to the teams, as these were planned for use within a mid-1960s Coca-Cola hockey promotion. All teams would have been sent Coca-Cola sheets, but only a pair came back signed (Montreal and Boston). The Coca-Cola album is complete at 108 cards, with the album in low grade with the interior detached from the covers along with a number of loose pages, with the front and back cover attached by way of clear tape. The cards themselves appear to display nicely, with lower technical grades.
