Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Any items that originate from the genesis of HOF careers are arguably some of the most sought after, with those hailing from netminders holding a special place in collector’s hearts. We have an absolutely wonderful Chicago Black Hawks jersey worn by superstar goaltender Ed Belfour during his rookie campaign of 1988-89. Maska Ultrafil labeling graces the collar along with a CCM crest over the reverse hem, with the desirable sweater a size “54” according to the accompanying letter. Styled with arguably the most attractive team crest in sports with the famous Indian-head motif executed with chain-stitched detailing, the red V-neck has also been accented with white tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers with black trim, with matching chain-stitched tomahawk crests over each shoulder. This stunning specimen will be accompanied by the aforementioned letter of provenance.
Worn by Belfour during training camp and the pre-season in 1988-89, as well as the regular season up until Nov 20th when the Black Hawks retired Glenn Hall’s #1 on November 20th 1988, he then switched to #31, a number he wore for only the remainder of the 1988-89 season. A few marks and stains are present over the lower front along with pilling, with some minor discolouration over the white section of the outer collar. There are also small stains beneath the right sleeve’s number and over the reverse “3”.
