Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Relocating from Hartford in 1997 and playing out of Raleigh at the PNC Arena, the Carolina Hurricanes have claimed 3 Division championships and 2 Conference titles along with a Stanley Cup - defeating Edmonton 4 games to 3 in the 2006 finals. We have a large grouping of Canes memorabilia, with four framed displays including examples with signatures from Ron Francis, Keith Primeau and NASCAR legend Richard Petty, a Hurricanes cooler bag and full wine bottle both team-signed by the 2001-02 squad, a goal stick team-signed by the inaugural 1997-98 team, a team-signed stick from the late-1990s, a single-signed stick by Sami Kapanen, 23 signed pucks and more!
The first display is entitled “The Captain and The King” featuring Keith Primeau and Richard Petty, with each adding wonderful signatures, matted and framed to full dimensions of 18” x 26”. The second display features a 16” x 20” photo of Ron Francis scoring the overtime goal in Game 1 of the 2002 Finals, with Francis signing and the particulars listed along the base, matted and framed to full dimensions of 26” x 26 ¾”. Next, the cooler bag is just under 15” in height with a Canes logo over the plastic cover, with 19 signing the top and sides in silver including Glen Wesley, Ron Francis, Martin Gelinas, Tommy Westlund, Sami Kapanen, Aaron Ward, Jeff Daniels, Shane Willis and others. The wine bottle is a Monterey Crystal Cabernet Sauvignon, with an engraved Canes logo and “2001-02”, with approx. 22 signatures in silver with Sami Kapanen, Martin Gelinas, Rod Brind'Amour, Ron Francis and others, with a number of signatures smudged (this will have to be shipped empty if sent outside of Canada). The Kapanen and late-1990s signed sticks are both on Sher-Wood sticks with Canes graphics, with Kapanen signing across the blade with no issues, while the team-signed stick has been signed by 20 across the front side including Kevin Dineen, Gary Roberts, Ron Francis, Sean Hill, Curtis Leschyshyn, Kent Manderville and others. The inaugural season-signed goal stick is a Vic model signed over the paddle and blade in blue by approx. 22 with Kevin Dineen, Kevin Brown, Stu Grimson, Geoff Sanderson, Steven Rice, Stephen Leach, Kent Manderville, Curtis Leschyshyn, Gary Roberts and others. Lastly, the pucks have each been single-signed, with each a Hurricanes example (a few All-Star Game pucks are also present) with signatures present from Weekes, Tanabe, Kapanen, Vasicek, Irbe and others. Most display well, with a few having smudged signatures. A few other jewels are left in the offering, but we’ll leave those for the winning bidder to discover.
