Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Offered is a black leather Roots bomber jacket that was presented to members of the Canadian hockey teams following their gold medal win in 2002, with this example given to Stu Poirier. We also have a 1977-78 CCCP vs Canada blanket. An embroidered crest with gold crossed hockey sticks graces the reverse, with a smaller version of the maple leaf crest sewn onto the left breast. A Roots 2002 Salt Lake City tag is sewn onto a square black leather patch with a size XXL fly tag attached to the bottom. The inside left breast pocket has "this jacket was made especially for Stewart Poirier" embroidered in gold. The solid red 26” x 43” blanket feature’s a triangle-shaped crest with “Ice Hockey Match in Tokyo ’77-78” and “CCCP vs Canada”. A signed LOA from Poirier for the jacket will accompany.
Both crests on the jacket have "GOLD MEDAL CHAMPIONS, Salt Lake City" embroidered in gold thread beneath them. A large black felt crest with a black and gold embroidered Canadian flag is sewn onto the right sleeve, with embroidered "Men’s Gold Medal Champions" and "Women’s Gold Medal Champions" banners. A second patch is sewn below honoring the 50th anniversary of Canada’s 1952 Olympic gold medal. The left sleeve has six black felt puck crests with gold thread embroidering for the years and host cities of six Canadian gold medals (1948 is curiously absent). With just light wear to the jacket and blanket, both items remain in wonderful condition.
