Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

With the decade completely owned by New York clubs, primarily the Yankees, the 1950s witnessed an impressive Fall Classic run for the Bronx Bombers, winning championships from 1950-53 along with 1956 and 1958, also making appearances in 1955 and 1957. The torch was passed from Joe DiMaggio to Mickey Mantle early on, with Joe D making his last Fall Classic appearance in 1951, which would be The Mick’s first. The decade was also noteworthy for the lone World Series championship for the beloved Bums of Brooklyn, occurring in 1955. Rarely offered in complete form, we have a World Series program run from the fabulous ‘50s that spans from 1950 to 1959, with examples for each venue, from each year, along with a 1951 “phantom” example for a Yankees/Dodgers clash. The pair from 1950 remain un-scored, while the pair for 1951 includes an example for game 1. The 1952 examples also remain untouched, with an example from the pair for 1953 having one partially scored. Next, the pair hailing from 1954 includes an example scored for game 4, while the pair from 1955 features a partially scored specimen from Ebbets Field. Lastly, all the remaining pairs for each year remain un-scored, except a lone example from Milwaukee County Stadium for 1958 that has been partially scored. The majority of the publications remain in very pleasing and collectible condition, with some examples exhibiting small flaws that would keep them from being considered high-grade including ink notations. The programs with notable issues includes examples from 1950 (Yankee Stadium – Heavy wear to the covers with a large vertical fold), 1954 (Cleveland Stadium – Rolled spine, stamp on back cover) and 1957 (Yankee Stadium – Spine damage including separations, with large vertical fold).
