Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Historically important for the first appearance of verso numbers on jerseys in the World Series, the 1932 Fall Classic is also widely rehashed for Babe Ruth’s famous “called shot”, with The Bambino notching the iconic home run in the fifth inning of Game 3. The Chicago Cubs would also advance to the Series and try to stand in New York’s way, but to no avail, as the Yanks outscored their National League rivals 37-19, sweeping the Series in four straight games. We have an unscored program for the Series, hailing from Yankee Stadium. At 9 ¼” x 11”, gorgeous Art Deco imagery dominates the cover, with the publication complete including the line-up. Clear tape now brittle has been affixed to the spine, with the covers detached. With surface wear to the back cover along with a 1959 stamp from an LA book dealer on the last page, the program survives admirably, despite the added tape and detached covers.
