Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
The last Fall Classic occurrence of an inside-the-park home run until Game 1 of the 2015 World Series, the 1929 championship featured the Philadelphia Athletics, making their first Series appearance since being handily defeated by the Miracle Braves in four straight games in 1914, against the always dangerous Chicago Cubs, who also tasted defeat during their last climb to the top, losing to Boston in 1918. The Series would begin on Oct 8th in Chicago, garnering the largest crowd of the 5 games played with just over 50,000 witnessing a 3-1 Cubs loss. Despite a win in the third game at Shibe Park, Chicago went down in defeat in 5, with the Athletics winning their fourth World Series. We have an unscored program from the Series hailing from Shibe Park.
At roughly 8 ½” x 11”, the thick publication features a fairly clean cover with intact line-ups and tightly wound pages, with just expected handling wear present. There is some light creasing and corner wear to each cover, with a small edge tear on the reverse.
