Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Exhibiting plenty of use, this early one-piece stick has been fashioned for the popular late-19th century game of bandy. With obvious nods to the Irish sport of hurling, bandy is a form of hockey, with its rules and game-play similar to both soccer and field hockey. This bandy stick’s shaft bears more than a passing resemblance to a wooden axe handle, right down to the curved edge of the butt end of the stick. Plenty of use is visible, with a thin metal brace that has been added by nails near the bottom section, and it exhibits plenty of rust confirming its age. The top handle appears to have been added as the outline can be seen, along with nails that have been administered to hold it in place.
