Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Lost for the most part to the annals of time, the American game of roller hockey and it’s closely related cousin ice polo battled ice hockey for preeminence during the late 19th century. Played with a shorter and rounded-blade stick, a ball instead of a puck was also utilized. This pair of sticks bridges that transitional period. The first example is roughly 38” from tip to where the blade bends, and it features an 8” leather grip, with a custom split blade that has been sealed with nails. The second example is roughly 40” from tip to where the blade begins to bend, with a handle that thins along the top of the shaft. With no makers marks present, each shows nice use, with both remaining in very good condition.
