Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Commonplace in the early-20th century, the majority of skates manufactured during this period were designed to be attached to “hockey boots”, and would be purchased separately. Companies like CCM then started to market “matched sets”, with the blades already affixed to the boots. This lot contains four different boxed sets of blades, including examples from Starr (Aero models), Ballard (Viking models), Imperial and Coronation (Ace models). The Ballard skates are tube-style, while the other 3 are older straight-blade styles. The boxes range in size from roughly 12” x 3” x 2 ½”, to 14” x 3 ¼” x 3 ¼”, with each showing varying degrees of wear, while the skates themselves remain in beautiful condition with just a few areas of rust spotting.
The Coronation, Ballard and Imperial boxes all display well, with heavier wear to the Starr example, with ripped corners and edges, along with the side identification label that is completely detached but present. One of the Viking tube skates also has the original $3.25 price tag attached.
