Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Lumber used by HOFers to reach important career milestones is as desirable as it gets, with the majority of that short supply coveted as keepsakes by those very HOFers, leaving scant specimens to appear on the auction block. We have a highly desirable example here, wielded by superstar Mark Messier while garnering his 1000th NHL career assist, becoming the 6th fabled individual to reach that lofty height. A Louisville Graphite model, “Messier” appears on the inserted blade, with the stick retaining its tape on both the handle and blade. Originally handed directly to our consignor from Messier after the historic point was recorded, a letter of provenance along with a period newspaper clipping will accompany this important milestone stick.
Occurring on January 10, 1998 against Florida at GM Place, Messier assisted on an Alexander Mogilny goal for his 1000th career assist. Game-wear is light on the important stick, with wear to the taped section of blade along with a few marks to the lower shaft.
