Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

Defenseman Matt Donovan wore this New York Islanders alternate jersey when he made his NHL home debut in 2011-12. Donovan’s game-worn third jersey is a curious mix of past, present and future styles of hockey sweaters, featuring a retro nod in the “Islanders” team name spelled out in a slight arch of sewn-on individual twill letters above Donovan’s jersey No. 46 on the front, which displays a faux tie-neck collar. Islanders team crest patches are sewn on both shoulders and the sleeves and hips of this game-worn third jersey feature forward-looking flared blue and orange inserts with grey stripes matching the shoulder yokes. Donovan played three of his 67 NHL games with the Islanders in 2011-12 and a fabric pull on the right sleeve is the most evident of obviously light game wear here. Size 58 flag tag sits in the back of the neck and a New York Islanders gameworn jersey program team patch sewn inside the rear tail has a registry number that corresponds to the one on the Islanders LOA that accompanies this gamer.
