Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Originally auctioned by the Windsor-St. Clair Rotary Club in 1996, we have an impressive Canadian Olympic Team tracksuit that was worn by Donovan Bailey while receiving his gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics, and it’s been signed by Bailey, along with 24 additional Olympians. The story behind the suit appearing on Bailey is almost as interesting as the suit itself. An included letter from Brad Snyder relates how the suit was actually his, lent to Bailey to wear during the medals presentation due to Bailey not receiving his own suit yet. Produced, fittingly, by Champion, the polyester track suit features the Canadian maple leaf, with the 1996 Games logo over the right sleeve. 24 have signed on verso in marker, including Bailey, Michael Smith, Robert Esmie and many others.
Most of the signatures exhibit bleeding, while some also appear somewhat faded. The track suit top itself exhibits a few small stains front and back, while the solid red track pants remain in excellent condition. A signed letter from Bailey is included, along with a newspaper clipping that advertises the Windsor-St. Clair auction, with a second newspaper clipping with an image of Bailey wearing the track suit.
