Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

This is the gold ring that Peter Dalla Riva received from the Montreal Alouettes to commemorate the team's crushing win over their Western rivals in the 65th Grey Cup game in 1977, commonly referred to as the "Ice Bowl" because of the frigid conditions. The year "1977" is split and etched on either side of the face which features "Montreal" and "Alouettes" in raised letters on the top and bottom, with the team's blue and red "A" logo on a clear stone set in the middle. "Dalla Riva" is engraved in the top of the left shank of the 25 gram ring, which features an image of the Grey Cup and "Coupe Grey Cup Champions" in raised letters. The right shank has the result of the game above an image of the spine of the Olympic Stadium tower, with "Canadian Football League" at the bottom. The Balfour shield and "10K" are stamped inside the band of the size 11 ring that rests inside its original blue velvet-lined wood ring box with the team logo.
Wear is present along the the band, shanks and edges, with two substantial grooves along the outside bottom of the band, occurring through use, with additional wear and scratches to the inner band. Despite these obvious imperfections, the ring displays wonderfully.
The Montreal Alouettes claimed the Grey Cup in front of their own fans on November 27, 1977 with a 41-6 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos at Olympic Stadium. Montreal kicker Don Sweet had booted five field goals and a single to put the Als up 16-6 when Dalla Riva caught a seven-yard pass from Sonny Wade in the third quarter for the game's first touchdown and the rout was on.
