Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

Serving as a back-up for Kjell Svensson with the Swedish National Team from 1960-65, goaltender Lennart Haggroth first saw action when filling in for an injured Svensson at the 1962 World Championships, winning gold. Medals would also follow at the 1962, 1963 and 1964 European Championships, along with a silver medal at the 1964 Winter Olympic Games at Innsbruck. Presented, we have Haggroth’s silver medal won at the IX Olympic Winter Games, originally obtained from his personal collection, along with his 1964 Olympic diploma. The Innsbruck logo featuring the Olympic rings sits centralized surrounded by IX Olympic Winter Games in German. "Innsbruck 1964" is spelled out above a stylized rendition of the Alps with "Eishockey" (ice hockey, in German) along the bottom. With the intact original ribbon, the medal features a stamping along the edge, with an “A” in a circle, along with “925”. Surviving in beautiful condition, dirt is present within grooves, with a single scratch along the upper edge near the ribbon. The Diploma is roughly 12” x 17” and features beautiful graphics, with signatures in ballpoint along the lower section from IOC president Avery Brundage, along with the general secretary and the OC president. With just some edge wear along with horizontal creases from previously being rolled, the document would look stunning framed. An LOA from Classic will be included.
