Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
Identical to the examples awarded to athletes at the Lake Placid Games in 1980, we have an unawarded bronze medal from the XIII Winter Olympics. This attractive medal lacks only the name of the participant along with his/her discipline, and is a mirror duplicate in every way including the intact and attached white and blue ribbon. These medals were kept on hand as a contingency, in the likelihood of a tie or similar scenario where an additional medal might be required. At just under 3 ¼” in diameter, a grasped and extended torch is pictured in relief on the obverse, with the Olympic rings embossed along with “XIII Olympic Winter Games”. The reverse features a detailed fir branch along with “Lake Placid 1980”, with "Tiffany & Co. Bronze 1979" stamped along the bottom edge. With just a few tiny blemishes along edges, the medal remains in absolutely stunning high grade, with just very light wear to the attached ribbon.
