Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
The 2nd overall pick in 1963, Pete Mahovlich enjoyed a lengthy and productive career that included representing Canada at both the 1972 Summit Series, where he scored a memorable goal in Game 2, and at the 1976 Canada Cup tournament, where Team Canada were crowned champions. We have the jersey that hails from the first set of Team Canada whites, worn by Mahovlich early in the tournament including pre-tournament practices and inter-squad match-ups. This set has the cross-over neck but not the reinforced elbows, while jerseys from the second set of whites were given to Czech players in the famous exchange at the end of the last game. AK size 48 tagging remains affixed to the collar, with all identifiers on the white sweater rubberized, including the classic half-maple leaf team crest along with the sleeve and verso numbers and letters.
A few random marks present indicate game-wear, including examples on the lower front over the team crest. There is also some light toning to the white fabric, presenting now as a light cream colour along the shoulders and neckline.
