First appearing on the big screen as a 15-part black and white serial in 1948, The Man of Steel has had a number of features produced in his honour, with the original franchise starring Christopher Reeve arguably the most beloved by film buffs. Superman, released in 1978 begun the series, followed by three sequels, with Superman II (1980), Superman III (1983) and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987). We have 6 posters from the franchise for your collecting pleasure, with a pair of one sheet posters for Superman III along with a pair of Australian daybills (smaller size) for the film, followed by a one sheet for Superman IV and a rare Japanese poster for Superman II (20” x 28 ½”). All four of the Superman III posters remain in pleasing condition with expected wear, especially along fold line intersections. There is also some toning and light spotting to the reverse of each, with the odd crease, wrinkle, or small edge tear or separation. The Japanese poster has heavier creasing along the top and bottom border, with some water staining to the reverse. Lastly, the Superman IV poster exhibits heavy wear along fold lines, with a black marker notation of “Super” on the reverse, along with a few other small notations.
